One of our strongest beliefs is in our community. We participate in nearly a dozen events with our community throughout the year, and we are constantly looking for new opportunities to offer our support. Below are examples of projects we have participated in during the past. If you have a project that you would like our assistance for, please refer to the main page for our contact information.

Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is an organization that builds simple, decent, affordable, houses in partnership with those in need of adequate shelter. Since 1976, Habitat has built more than 100,000 houses in more than 79 countries, including some 30,000 houses across the United States. The brothers of Beta Sigma Kappa have participated in the construction of 4 houses since our founding in 1998. In the picture that has been provided we were helping with the drywall installation.

Community Action Corps
This organization is the community service outlet for students at the University at Buffalo. Every year they plan an event called "Night Out". Night Out is an event dedicated to the millions of people who are homeless and have no decent shelter. It is essentially a fund raiser and an awareness program that takes place over night at a popular place on the University at Buffalo campus. In addition to our brother Jason being the former executive director of Community Action Corps, we have participated in Night Out for the last three years. It is always our pleasure to attend this event and learn firsthand of the many hardships that homeless people face everyday.

Adopt a Highway
As a group of individuals who are part of a community where we attend college we like to believe that we do our part to upkeep our environment. Two years ago Beta Sigma Kappa partnered with the Erie Country Department of Sanitation in the Adopt a Highway program. 2 - 4 times a year the brothers, and a group of very gracious volunteer's, travel over to the west side of buffalo to clean up our very own highway.

Linda Yalem Memorial 5K Run
This run is held annually in memory of Linda Yalem, a UB student who was assaulted and murdered while near the campus. At the time of her death she was training for the New York City Marathon. Each year we participated in this event by both volunteering and running in the race. The goal of the Linda Yalem run is to remind one another that we must take steps to ensure our safety and not allow our lives to be controlled by fear. We have a responsibility to ensure our safety and the safety of others.

March of Dimes Walk America
The March of Dimes was originally started to raise money to fund the cure for polio. However after successfully completing this goal the March of Dimes became focused on trying to cure the many birth defects that plague newborns every year. Each year in cities across america they fund the Walk America walk to raise money to help accomplish their goals. The brothers of Beta Sigma Kappa have participated in all four walks since our founding.

University at Buffalo Children's Carnival
Community Action Corps plans this event every year where kids from all over buffalo come to enjoy a day of fun and excitement on the University at Buffalo campus. Each year many clubs participate by overseeing the operation of some of the rides, or by providing as guides for the children. In the picture below, Carlos is entertaining a bunch of kids before they go on the rides.
